Amir Amirabdollahian said that the Iran understands Turkey’s security concerns and the need to address them, reported the Iranian news agency Tasnim. But he said that the resolution of problems requires continued security negotiations between Ankara and Damascus. The Iranian foreign minister also underlined that Turkey’s adventurism, leading to the ground military operation in Syria would not settle the problems, and instead it will cause harms and further complicate the situation.

The Iranian foreign minister also expressed Iran’s readiness to provide any assistance for the political settlement of the issues the between Turkey and Syria. Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu meanwhile explained the ongoing developments and Turkey’s stances on those issues. Turkish FM also praised Iran’s constructive role in the conflict and stressed the need to proceed with the contacts.

Meanwhile, Iran has said that Syria has the legitimate right to self-defence against the Israeli regime’s military attacks. Iran’s permanent ambassador to the United Nations, Saeed Iravani made these remarks on Tuesday, addressing a meeting of the UN Security Council.

“In northern Syria, the security and stability will only come about through complete preservation of and respect for the country’s sovereignty”, the Iranian envoy had said in his address while stressing that the territorial integrity of Syria should be respected.

“Military operation in northern Syria could (either) pose a challenge to humanitarian situation or even worsen it”, the Iran’s envoy to the UN had stressed.
