Speaking at an event in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called Operation Sindoor a “unique” example of India’s military leveraging modern technology to strike a decisive blow against terror groups and their backers. His remarks came just days before the first anniversary of the operation.

Singh noted that while the armed forces exercised restraint, they were methodical and effective in dismantling terrorist infrastructure. He said the operation demonstrated India’s military prowess to the world.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 last year in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The strikes targeted terror assets in Pakistan-controlled territory, triggering four days of intense fighting before both sides agreed to halt military action on May 10.

The Defence Minister praised the soldiers’ response, saying it made the nation proud. He highlighted that India showed patience and struck only terrorists, adding that the world is well aware of the armed forces’ full potential.

Singh pointed to the use of advanced missile systems such as Akash and BrahMos, along with other modern equipment, during the operation. He said this proved that India’s forces not only understand technological change but also use it confidently.

Given the current global geopolitical situation, Singh stressed the need for the military to stay alert and adaptable. He called “adaptability” the key mantra for moving forward in a complex and fast-changing environment.

He urged proactive preparation for all possible national security challenges, including developing a “surprise element” to catch adversaries off guard. Singh noted that history shows the side with the element of surprise often holds the decisive edge in conflict, and he expressed confidence that the armed forces are working in this direction — while calling for even greater proactivity.
